Well it was a year ago to the day yesterday when I took my first steps through the doors of Whole Foods Market Giffnock as a supplier and not as a customer. Talk about nervous!! Didn’t have the first clue what to do but thankfully the wonderful receiver ( that’s technical speak for the person who receives the goods I quickly learned – and he’s called Gary) put me at my ease, photocopied my invoice ( as I’d only taken one and not two copies!) and took me through the store to meet my buyer and my new found colleagues in the bakery department. Within the hour my weefudge bags were barcoded and in the chiller! Talk about a proud moment. I felt like I was taking my firstborn to their first morning at school ; proud, happy, but really worried that no one would want or like my fudge ( a bit like worrying whether your child will make any friends!) I didn’t cry when I left (of course) but I did have a couple of nights wondering whether anyone would actually buy it! After three days hubby could take it no more and insisted I go into the store and see for myself – so I did! I kind of hovered around the bakery examining every kind of bread on offer, trying not to eye up the fudge or rearrange the bags on shelf and then one of the staff recognised me and told me the fudge was going really quite well – in fact some of the staff had bought it!! Wow!! Someone had bought my fudge… and team members do count as real customers … don’t they? In fact ‘real customers’ had bought it too. The proof of that particular pudding was evidenced when daughter was sent to the store the following weekend and she had the good sense to hover until someone put it in their basket! She even followed them through the checkout to make sure they actually bought it. One bona fide sale confirmed she left the store a happy bunny and the weefudge nerves were duly calmed. Now…… would I get a second order…..

A rather busy start to 2013 here as we get lots of samples off to prospective new stockists and start working with some new partners. Today our fudge is on its way to London - courtesy of weefudgesenior who is off to the capital for a spot of catching up with some friends. Fortunately his train was unheated ( shame!) which was excellent news for the fudge and he is under strict instructions to ensure his hotel room stays equally cold tonight in order that our goodies reach their very special destination unspoilt! All for the love of fudge! :) x

As 2012 draws to a close I’d like to thank all of our friends, followers, fans, customers and most of all YOU for making the last year such a fabulous beginning for us at The Wee Fudge Company. At this time last year we were frantically pulling things together in preparation for our very first order from our very first customer Whole Foods Market Giffnock…. and the rest as they say is (recent) history!

Over the last 12 months we have worked with some of the best corporate clientele Scotland has to offer, and our fudge is now in some of the finest food stores. We won a Theo Paphitis #SBS Award, were featured by STV Glasgow, awarded Best Producer by feastRen Food and Drink Festival supported by www.cookschool.org and were proud recipients of cracking reviews from Gerry’s Kitchen, A Scots Larder and most recently featured by I know this great little place in Glasgow… phew!!
It’s been a phenomenal first year! We wondered whether there was a gap in the market for fudge like ours … and you’ve all confirmed that there most certainly is! 2012 was not so much about taking the plunge – but about dipping our toe in the water and we like it . It’s been a huge learning curve for the last 12 months but it’s all good! We’ve had a great Christmas and now very much looking forward to 2013 and some new and exciting things – so watch this space! Thank you all so much for your continuing support. Have a Happy Hogmanay and a fabulous New Year! :) x

Those of you familiar with Facebook and Twitter are probably very well acquainted with the fabulous GLP pages that find, promote and support the finest places to go in Glasgow! Well we were approached by GLP Glasgow who wanted to run a wee feature on us and of course I just had to say yes! These guys provide a great service and great opportunities for people to share their thoughts and experiences on where to go in our fine city – and lucky for us they also turn their attention sometimes to other businesses – like us! So you can read here what they had to say about us on December 12th , and see some unsolicited feedback offered by some of their FB friends. http://www.facebook.com/greatlittleplaceglasgow . You might also want to give their page a wee ‘like’ – well worth a regular look! :)

One of the things I’ve noticed since we started the business is there are so many food shows – and they seem to know all about us ( even though I have to admit I hadn’t heard of half of them!) So in our first year it’s been really difficult to decide which, if any, we would like to attend – and whether we were ready for that level of exposure. Our solution to this was gifted to us by our friends at the Cook School Scotland who offered to take our fudge to The Boat Show Scotland and also to the BBC Good Food Show. Now this is the one show I did know about so I was really chuffed that the fudge would be there – and I could go along for a wee daunder and a gander to suss out whether this was something we might want to think about for next year.

The Cook School had a huge stand at the show and all of the chefs were there demonstrating and cooking for visitors all weekend – and the gorgeous cook school girls were there looking after the shop and of course promoting our fudge! Samples to feed an army went off ( and disappeared on the very first day!) so I learned very quickly that people going to the show are really interested in eating whilst they are there! Day 2 and 3 saw another shedload of samples disappearing – but so did a lot of bags of fudge to paying customers who loved it! It was a great weekend and a great learning experience. Will we go back next year………. you’ll need to wait and see!

Can hardly contain my excitement………. we had a fabulous Day 2 at the Feastren Food & Drink Festival. Lucky for me The WeeFudge Family were on board again for Day 2 – and just as well as yet again we sold out not once but twice. Weefudge senior spent much of the afternoon ferrying fresh fudge from WFHQ to the event ( made just last night!) – and no sooner did he deliver the fudge than it was sold. My wee arm was cutting fudge for Scotland - and next week’s stocks disappeared before my very eyes! Oops! Anyway, back to the big big news and the reason for the excitement . We were awarded Best Producer at the Awards Ceremony!!!!!!! Yep – the new girl on the block secured the public vote majority and my goodness we won!!!! Woohoo!!!!! Invited up to the stage to receive my award from Tam Cowan, I blubbered a few words then left still in shock – though I made sure I kep tight hold of the Laurent Perrier Rose Champagne. It was so good of them to make sure the champagne was my all time favourite! Apologies for the photo ( love making fudge – hate getting my picture taken!) but the evidence is right here!
